# Perception and Robustness Workflows

## Summary
The clearest operational change in this evidence is tighter evaluation for embodied control and narrower, more reusable pretraining for perception. STRONG-VLA supports a deployment workflow where VLA models are tested against specific text and vision corruptions and fine-tuned with a separate clean re-alignment stage. ZWM supports a perception workflow where one masked video predictor is probed for multiple zero-shot readouts, with early evidence that even a modest private video corpus can be useful.

## Multimodal perturbation regression testing for VLA deployment
A practical next step for teams shipping VLA policies is a perturbation gate that runs before deployment and after every fine-tuning cycle. STRONG-VLA gives a usable shape for that gate: 28 perturbation types across text and vision, including held-out cases such as semantic drift, contextual distractors, and dynamic visual artifacts. The paper also shows why this should be tied to training, not only evaluation. A two-stage process—first train under increasing perturbation difficulty, then re-align on clean data—improved LIBERO success across OpenVLA, OpenVLA-OFT, and pi0 while keeping clean performance close to baseline. The immediate build is a small internal harness around the perturbations that your robot actually sees: instruction corruption, occlusion, image shift, and sensor noise. The cheap check is simple: compare clean-task success and perturbed-task success before and after adding a separate clean re-alignment stage. If the gap closes without a large clean-data drop, the training workflow is ready to keep. If it does not, the team has a concrete failure map instead of a single average success number.

## Shared visual predictor with zero-shot readouts for embodied perception
A reusable visual predictor for robotics and embodied perception can now be scoped as a single pretraining component with multiple zero-shot readouts, not a separate labeled model for flow, depth, segmentation, and short-horizon physical reasoning. ZWM is the clearest evidence in this pack. It trains on paired frames by showing the first frame fully and only about 10% of the second frame, then uses small input interventions at test time to recover motion, depth, and object structure from the change in its predictions. The reported breadth matters more than any one benchmark: BabyZWM, trained on 868 hours of child egocentric video, is competitive on TAP-Vid-DAVIS flow, above 90% on UniQA-3D depth, strong on SpelkeBench segmentation, and near 100% on the paper's short-timescale physics benchmark. A concrete build here is an internal perception backbone that exposes these readouts through one API and gets tested on transfer before any task-specific fine-tuning. The cheap validation step is to train the predictor on a narrow natural-video corpus from the target environment and check whether zero-shot depth and motion stay useful enough to support downstream planning or policy learning.

## Small private video corpora as pretraining inputs for zero-shot perception
Teams collecting robot or egocentric video should test whether a few hundred hours from one setting or one operator can already support broad visual pretraining. ZWM reports that a single-child model trained on 132 hours performs similarly to the full 868-hour BabyZWM on most tasks, and that age-ordered single-pass training also stays close. That shifts the first adoption step. You do not need a large multi-task annotation plan to learn something useful from a private video archive. A concrete workflow change is to start with one continuous corpus from the target environment, train a masked next-frame predictor, and measure zero-shot motion and depth before building labels or synthetic data pipelines. This is most relevant for labs and product teams with proprietary first-person or robot video that is too small for conventional supervised perception programs but large enough to cover routine scenes and object interactions.
